that Monday morning feeling?....

Welcome to our very first blog .... no Monday morning blues here, apart from the brilliant blue sky of course!

Sitting in the hanger for 8am staff devotions we were blasted with the roar of engines as a plane took off: Tanzania's President is in town!

33 hours of travelling Thurs/Fri wasn't half as tiring as a couple of hours of housework, preparing our new place in 30 degrees heat...we've been thoughtfully welcomed by all in the guesthouse since arriving on the compound and are seriously looking forward to tomorrow, to our fabulous 6 ft x 6 ft bed, enormous by anyones' standard! (our 18th bed since leaving Uddevalla). Asher gets his own queen size to loll about in for some well-earned recuperation!

Thank the Lord we've avoided nasty stings from mr unfriendly scorpion who has inflicted its horrid self on two unsuspecting feet of late.... our other two arch enemies the snake and the 8 legged unmentionable have scuttled and slithered away as we approached; cockroaches, lizards, geckos and megga sized bees have all made their presence known but gigantic sized rain drops sent them off to find shelter in our briefest of afternoon showers, at the end of this short rainy season....wish the bloomin' mozzies would buzz off too! We now wear eau de mosquito, male and female variety!

So all in all we've had a jolly warm welcome to Africa by many!! Photos to follow next blog, once i’ve worked out how to upload one!

Kwa heri for now

  2. If my temperature converter is correct, 30 degrees = 86 degrees F. Right? Am surely looking forward to photos and hoping the many different things to learn will be your cup of tea. Speaking of which, what do you drink there? Will you attend language school or pick it up as you go about? Eagerly waiting.

  3. Hi Jem, glad you all arrived OK and are settling in. Just so you know Mum is here at ours this weekend with it being Mothers Day. If you were able to or were thinking of a computer call to our land line or a Skype 11am our time would be good? She would appreciate it, she has naturally been quite emotional since you left worrying about your journey and arrangements etc. that end. I will of course show her your blog, I have shown her the MAF web site and a done a quick excursion via google earth to Dodoma! Hope the spiders stay tame, best wishes J.
